:::::::::::::: Sign Language / Sign Theatre |
To
facilitate communication to the hearing impaired, a special
sign language was developed about a decade ago in Nepal. The
Nepali sign language has a vocabulary of 3,000 words. The Jyoti
Punja Sign Theatre has been using this sign language
in silent plays to communicate in a simple, but in an effective
manner.
The
Jyoti Punja Sign Theatre has also been training
the actors to use the Nepali sign language. It is taking the
help of sign language experts and instructors to provide both
the 'basic' and 'complete' sign language courses to its students. |

|
Street dramas hold a unique place
and importance in Nepali theatre. The Jyoti Punja theatre has
recognized this importance and adhering to its goal of introducing
theatre to the general public through street theatre, it has
been organizing such programs quite frequently. Performing outside
a theatre, under the open sky is called street theatre. Street
theatre in Nepal began as early as in B.S. 2038 soon after the
performance of 'Hami Basanta Khoji Rahechaun'
and 'Murdabadma Utheka Haatharu'. These plays
were then performed on the grounds of Tribhuvan University,
Kirtipur. Today, there are numerous groups and institutions
performing street theatre, and Jyoti Punja Sign Theatre
